CA EPBD stakeholder event gathers experts to discuss building energy performance data and the BSO

Experts on building energy efficiency from across the European Union met in Prague on 28 November to discuss the data requirements for the tracking of the energy performance of the European building stock, a critical component to achieve the EU's goal of a zero-emission building stock by 2050.

The workshop, organised in connection with the 2nd CA EPBD plenary meeting, brought together CA EPBD representatives from Member States, the Building Stock Observatory (BSO) consortium, research institute IWU, and the European Commission, in a hybrid format.

Discussions centred on the forthcoming recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), which is expected to introduce new requirements for Member States to report building energy performance data to the EU via a new web tool, the BSO platform.

The workshop provided an opportunity for experts to understand the data needs required to transform the European building stock, exploring various approaches to data collection, statistical sampling methods, tracking of energy efficiency measures, and the use of Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) data.

Key questions addressed included the challenge of monitoring renovation rates and depths, differences in data collection between residential and non-residential buildings, and the integration of national reporting systems with the BSO.

The enhanced BSO web tool, which includes a database and factsheets on the EU's building stock, is available at the European Commission's website.

This collaborative effort was one of several stakeholder events planned by the Concerted Action EPBD to support the implementation of the EPBD.
