The first plenary meeting of the Concerted Action EPBD 6 took place in Rome on the 19th and 20th April 2023, bringing together national experts and representatives from the European Commission’s DG Energy and CINEA.

National experts gather in Rome for the first plenary meeting of the CA EPBD 6

The CA EPBD plenary meetings provide a unique platform for national experts to network and share ideas and experiences related to the implementation of the European Union’ Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to:

  • Hear from the project coordinators about the overall objectives of the project
  • Receive an update from DG Energy and CINEA regarding the European Commission’s priorities on energy efficiency in buildings
  • Share experiences and explore the various ways that the Members States have chosen to implement the EPBD
  • Participate in sessions on specific topics in the EPBD, such as energy performance certificates, building renovation plans, nearly zero-energy buildings, zero carbon lifecycle, cost optimality, data collection and reporting, and the role of automation and controls systems, building codes and technical requirements in buildings.

“We are delighted to have successfully hosted the first plenary meeting of the CA EPBD 6 project in Rome”, said Jens Laustsen, CA EPBD Coordinator. “The meeting was an excellent opportunity for the national experts to come together and talk about the challenges and opportunities of the EPBD and is just the first of many meetings to come. This first meeting looked at the EPBD in its current form, whereas our future meetings are expected to address the recast EPBD.”

Meetings are planned to take place twice a year for the five-year duration of the project and are open to national experts appointed in the Member States by national coordinators. The next CA EPBD plenary meeting is scheduled to take place on 29-30 November 2023.

Concerted Action EPBD was first established in 2004 and has since been extended five times with funding from the European Union, but under different funding programmes. The latest, sixth phase of the project has received funding from the EU’s LIFE CET Programme.

Amandine De Coster-Lacourt, Project Manager – LIFE Clean Energy Transition, CINEA, said: “We were pleased to see how the project can inspire and motivate the participants to continue the work to implement the EPBD.”
